Frequently Asked Questions

How confidential is the counselling service?

Anything you tell us in the session is confidential and will not be disclosed to anyone, without your permission, nor will it be entered on your medical records. The exclusions to this are only in rare cases where risk to self or another is identified.

I am nervous about my first counselling session, is there anything I need to do or bring?

Most people are nervous and we, as counsellors, appreciate how difficult it can be to make contact with a counselling service. We also believe that making this first step is very courageous. So, for your first session, please just bring yourself.

My partner has had an affair, will relationship counselling get us back together?

This is often a time when people think of couples counselling, when an affair has been disclosed or discovered. Relationship counselling can be very helpful in managing the immediate difficulties and pain; it can support the couple to look at what was not working, support them in considering how the relationship could be different; how to move on from the affair and most importantly counselling can help with communication. Affairs can end relationships however this is not always the outcome.

I am not sure about the costs of a counsellor, can I afford it?

This question seems better answered by feedback and comments from our clients

'My counselling was so helpful, my relationship is back on track and I have addressed my work issues too. I am so glad I invested in me for a change!'

'I said I was worried about costs when I first phoned as I thought I would be attending for months. During the first session the counsellor suggested we have 4 sessions and then discuss further. I only needed a further 2 sessions after that and we both agreed that I had got what I needed'

'The best money I have spent in a long time, thank you'.

'I didn't realise I could use my private health insurance. It was really helpful to know that counsellors from the West of Scotland Counselling service were registered with my private healthcare provider.
